Passion Pit - Manners LP album cover art

Passion Pit's debut record is just two months away. Have you not heard the hype by now? If you haven't, I'll give you lots of hyperbole to get your attention. No actually, I'll just let you listen to a song from the upcoming Manners LP (due out May 19th).

They return to play the Academy on the 7th of May. It's bound to be another sellout show.

06 Swimming In The Flood

Live: Airborne Toxic Event at the Academy

Californians Airborne Toxic Event are set to land in Ireland to play Dublin's Academy on 3rd of May 2009. My friend Mark got me into this band, he absolutely loves them, and after being turned onto them, I must say I'm starting to love them too.

Tickets are €15 and on sale now.

Download: Seeland - Call the Incredible

Seeland are a band of sonic death monkeys. Actually they're just two guys, but they sound like they could be sonic death monkeys. Their album Tomorrow Today is out now, and I have a tune from it for free download. The duo is made up of Tim Felton formerly of Broadcast and Billy Bainbridge from Plone.

Competition: win Future of the Left tickets for the Academy Dublin

Welsh band (hey Wales 17-15 woo!) Future of the Left will play the Academy 2 on the 17th of May. They supported Fight Like Apes at the Village last year and were tremendous, so no doubt this year's headlining gig will be just as manic!

I have two tickets to the show to give away. All you need to do to win is tell me what your favourite Future of the Left track is and why. Just a simple explanation will do. Post your answers in the comments section to enter.

I love this, just for the name:

Live: Spandau Ballet at the O2

Martin Kemp has come a long way since 'Gold', the other guys too, but especially Martin. Now however, they've done a complete 360 and have reformed.

They open their world tour in Dublin on October 13th at the O2, tickets priced €49.20. They go on sale next Thursday, April 2nd.

I always thought 'Embrace of the Vampire' with Alyssa Milano was Martin's best work.

But his best with the band:

Listen: We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices

'Quiet Little Voices' is the debut single from We Were Promised Jetpacks, who have an album coming in June titled These Four Walls. They have upcoming dates in the UK, so hopefully we'll see the addition of some Irish ones soon.

They're an Edinburgh post-punk quartet, who on the evidence of blistering debut single 'Quiet Little Voices', should be huge!

Live: U2 third date at Croke Park

Didn't I tell you? Date right and everything. I think.

Ticket prices are all the same (33 to 130 euro or something like that), but this time are for the 27th of July 2009. Tickets go on sale next Wednesday (April Fool's Day) at 8 am sharpish. Expect them all to be gone by nine.

Live: 80s Legends at the INEC

Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Kim Wilde, ABC, Heaven 17, Altered Images and Toyah will all be at Killarney's INEC on Saturday, April 11th. Now I don't normally post about Killarney on here, but it's great to see such icons playing down south. I thought it could do with some more coverage!

Tickets to see this unique show on cost €49.50 (standing) and €54.50 (seated) and are available from the INEC box office on 064 71550.

You remember this tune, right?

Live: Manic Street Preachers at the Olympia

Tickets go on sale this Friday for the Manic Street Preachers at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin. The Welshmen will play (my God this sounds like a news report!) on June 4th. Tickets are €49.50 and will be on sale from 9.30.

They're still decent enough, don't you know? That James Dean Bradfield solo record wasn't the best, on the other hand.

Live: Bon Iver at the Big Top, Galway

Bon Iver returns to Ireland once more to play Galway's always-excellent Arts Festival. He'll be at the Big Top on 23rd of July. Doubt we'll see Paul Brady at this show though!

No ticket details yet, but I'll update when I get them.

Free full album Download alert!

The band themselves say "This was recorded at the Futurism Club night which is run monthly in Eamon Doran’s, Temple Bar, Dublin. It features songs from the EP and the mini-album and a new cover which we think you’ll love…"

They've made it available in 320kbps, AAC, Ogg, FLAC, and Apple Lossless. What more could you ask for? Shorten maybe. Ah no, I joke.

You will love it though. It's excellent. Captures a great Irish band in a nice intimate setting.
