Album News: Lucero - 1372 Overton Park

Finally, a snippet more news for the new Lucero album, the follow up to the magnificent That Much Further West. It's going to be called 1372 Overton Park and will come out October 6th. You can stream one of the songs too, 'The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo' below. It's going to be amazing. This year is a great year for Alt.Country.

Listen:(Sorry it plays automatically, must sort that out).

Album News: Pearl Jam - Backspacer

Pearl Jam - Backspacer

Backspacer is the confirmed title for Pearl Jam's ninth album, due to be released in September (the 20th to be exact). You can listen to a clip of 'The Fixer' below, a song that they played on Conan O'Brien, which has had all its links removed from youtube due to copyright. A major pity. The promotional push would've helped. Greedy corporations again (Universal this time).

Tracklist:
1. “Gonna See My Friend”
2. “Got Some”
3. “The Fixer”
4. “Johnny Guitar”
5. “Just Breathe”
6. “Amongst The Waves”
7. “Unthought Known”
8. “Supersonic”
9. “Speed Of Sound”
10. “Force Of Nature”
11. “The End”

Listen to a clip of 'The Fixer':

Album Cover: Richard Hawley - Truelove's Gutter

Another album from Richard (I gave you news of this a month or two back, remember), another horrible album cover. However, to go along with that, we do have a tracklist. The album comes out September 21st in the UK, so it'll be out the 18th in Ireland. I can't wait.

Tracklist:
01 As the Dawn Breaks
02 Open Up the Door
03 Ashes on the Fire
04 Remorse Code
05 Don't Get Hung Up in Your Soul
06 Soldier On
07 For Your Lover, Give Some Time
08 Don't You Cry

Live: The Brainwave Horse Show Hustle

I'm all in favour of a charity night. Especially when it's one with such a magnificent lineup. The Brainwave Horse Show Hustle is in aid of the Irish Epilepsy Association, and takes place on August 7th at Krystle Nightclub. Music comes from David Kitt, The Chapters, History of Harry and All Star Charge.

Live: Mumford and Sons at the Academy

After seeing Marcus Mumford support Laura Marling two years ago at Whelan's (Robotnik also gave support that night - fantastic), I've been in love with him and with his music.

He returns with his full band, Mumford and Sons, after their great Oxegen performance. They'll be playing the Academy 2 on September 26th. Tickets are priced at €11.80 and go on sale this Friday.

Live: More Pixies at the Olympia Theatre

What did I tell you? Didn't I say there'd be a third Pixies date announced for the Olympia? Well there is! It's on Wednesday September 30th.

Tickets for this third show go on sale tomorrow at 9 a.m. and are sure to sell out fairly quickly.

Watch 'Debaser' live:

Live: Groom at Whelan's

One of my favourite young Irish acts play two gigs in Dublin this weekend. On Sunday night, Groom will be supporting Neosupervital at Whelan's upstairs. A great lineup. Tickets are 10 euro and doors are at 8.

On Friday, they'll be supporting Brian Cullen's Love Bullets in the Lower Deck in Portobello. Tickets are 8 euro with a copy of BCLB's new EP coming to you free.

Setlist: The Chapters, Oxegen, Sunday 12 July 2009

The desk blew in the first few minutes, the band went 10 minutes over time, but regardless of all that, it was a marvelous outing from the Chapters at Oxegen on Sunday at the Hot Press New Bands Stage.

Setlist:
Looking for love
Juice
Automobiles
Ukiyo
Ukrainian Gymnast
Perfect Stranger
Moving
Videotapes
Black Room
Trying to get Ahead

Stream: The Dodos - Time to Die

The Dodos - Time to Die album cover art

Now that the Dodos' third album Time to Die has been leaked online, they've decided to put it all up as a high(ish) quality stream for you all to hear. It'll stop the pillaging, looting and raping of torrents, rapidshare and the like.

The album has also been pushed forward from September to July 28th.

Stream it in full here, download first single 'Fables' for free, watch a message from the band and a lot more:

Live: The Specials at The Olympia Theatre

Fresh from playing Oxegen, the reunited Specials will be bringing the Irish national anthem to the Olympia Theatre. They'll play on November 15th with tickets priced at €49.50 and €54.50 going on sale this Friday at 9 a.m.

And now stand...

Live: Elbow at the Phoenix Park

Great news. Elbow have been confirmed as support for Coldplay at the Phoenix Park on 14th of September.

Tickets are still available at €76.50, and with Elbow supporting, you're much more likely to buy some!

Setlist: Nine Inch Nails, Oxegen, Sunday July 2009

Nine Inch Nails wouldn't be quite what you'd expect to find at Oxegen on Stage 2, but then again you wouldn't expect to see The Game. Oh wait, you never got to see him. They were damn good though.

Setlist:
Home
1,000,000
Terrible Lie
Discipline
March of the Pigs
Something I Can Never Have
The Becoming
The Big Come Down
Burn
Wish
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole
Hurt

Setlist: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Oxegen, Saturday 11 July 2009

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds drew an impressive enough crowd on Saturday night at the O2 Stage as they clashed with Kings of Leon. James sent me in this setlist, thanks very much to him!

Setlist:
'Papa Won't Leave You Henry'
'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!'
'Red Right Hand'
'Deanna'
'Midnight Man'
'The Ship Song'
'Henry Lee'
'Tupelo'
'We Call Upon The Author'
'The Mercy Seat'
'The Weeping Song'
'There She Goes My Beautiful World'
'Stagger Lee'
'Get Ready For Love'
'Lucy'

Setlist: The Killers, Oxegen, Sunday 12 July 2009

The Killers brought Oxegen 2009 to a close on Sunday night on the Main Stage. They played a nice little acoustic 'Smile Like You Mean It', but as I've said before, they're not headline material. They're much more a studio band than a live band. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would've been a much better headliner.

Setlist:
Human
Spaceman
Mr. Brightside
All These Things
The world we live in
For Reasons Unknown (extended version)
Smile Like you mean it (acoustic)
Somebody told me
Bling
Dusltand Fairytale
Jenny
Shadowplay
When You were Young
Read My Mind
Bones
Tranquilize

Setlist: James Morrison, Oxegen, Saturday 11 July 2009

James Morrison annoyed everyone by singing 'Please Don't Stop the Rain' on Saturday on the Main Stage at Oxegen 2009, and his wishes were answered, as blue sky didn't appear til Sunday.

Setlist:
'Please Don't Stop the Rain'
The Only Night'
'Under The Influence'
'You Give Me Something'
'Broken Strings'
'If You Don't Wanna Love Me'
'Precious Love'
'Nothing Ever Hurt Like You'
'Call The Police'

Setlist: Kings of Leon, Oxegen, Saturday 11 July 2009

Saturday night's Main Stage headliners at Oxegen 2009 probably brought the biggest crowd of all. Kings of Leon sell out everywhere they play in Ireland, and the field was full for them this weekend.

Setlist:
'Notion'
'Be Somebody'
'Taper Jean Girl'
'My Party'
'Molly's Chambers'
'Red Morning Light'
'Fans'
'Closer'
'Crawl'
'Four Kicks'
'Charmer'
'Sex On Fire'
'The Bucket'
'On Call'
'Slow Night, So Long'
'Knocked Up'
'Manhattan'
'Use Somebody'
'Devil Song'
'Black Thumbnail'

Watch 'Molly's Chambers' live at Oxegen 2009:

Setlist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Oxegen, Saturday 11 July 2009

Setlist:

Sealings
Cheated Hearts
Black Tongue
Heads Will Roll
Zero
Turn Into
Skeletons
Soft Shock
Date with the Night

Setlist: Passion Pit, Oxegen, Saturday 11 July 2009

Setlist:
Eyes as Candles

The Reeling
Sleepyhead
Smile Upon Me
Let Your Love Grow Tall

Setlist: Lily Allen, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

'I Could Say'
'22'
'Oh My God'
'L.D.N.'
'Go Back To The Start’
'Littlest Things'

'Womanizer'
'Fuck You'
'Not Fair'

Setlist: Bruce Springsteen, RDS, 12 July 2009
