Hold on to what You Believe
The Cave

Setlist: The Mighty Stef, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Setlist:
Death Threats
Down at the Radiotron
Poisonous Love

Setlist: 202s, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

The 202s album is one of the best Irish albums of the year, and they popped in to the Red Bull Music Academy yesterday for a short little set.

Goodbye, Good Evening
Who Cares About Sunshine
Shoot You Down

Setlist: God is an Astronaut, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Setlist:
Fragile
Coda
Shining Through
No Return

Setlist: Iain Archer, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Former Snow Patrol songwriter Iain Archer played the Red Bull Music Academy yesterday. I haven't a clue what the songs he played are called - so please let me know what they were.

Setlist:

Canal Song
Streamer On A Kite

Setlist: Republic of Loose, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Republic of Loose played the Heineken Green Spheres yesterday and had a massive singalong for some of their best known tunes.

Setlist:
Shame
I Like Music
Comeback Girl
The Steady Song
Break
Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin (Michael Jackson cover)

Setlist: Cashier No. 9, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Northern Ireland's Cashier No. 9 were absolutely amazing at the IMRO New Sounds Tent on Friday evening. They played a stormer of a set and won many a new fan, no doubt.

Setlist:
When Jackie Shone
To The Death of Fun
42 West Avenue
Jump The Queue
Goodbye Friend

Setlist: Duke Special, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

The great dreadlocked one brought the summer to the O2 Stage at Oxegen yesterday, and his fans went wild for 'Freewheel'. Need someone to fill in the gaps in the setlist (especially the earlier songs).

Setlist:
Sweet Sweet Kisses
Salvation Tambourine
Our Love Goes Deeper Than This
Last Night I Nearly Died (But I Woke Up Just In Time)
Freewheel

Setlist: Jape, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Richie 'Jape' Egan played the Red Bull Music Academy stage at Oxegen on Friday, but sadly didn't have the full house he deserved. 'Christopher and Anthony' was a highlight as always. Again, some of the tunes are missing from my setlist below. Photo from electricpancake.

Setlist:
Streetwise
Christopher and Anthony
Floating
I Was A Man

Setlist: Dinosaur Pile-Up, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Dinosaur Pile-Up wouldn't have been a band I really knew before, but after rave reviews from absolutely everyone, I really have to check them out. They played the Hot Press Stage on Friday. I'm missing some tunes from the setlist, so if you know what they are, let me know.

Setlist:
My Rock 'n' Roll
Opposites Attract
Traynor
Love is a Boat and We're Sinking
Summer Hit Single

Setlist: Fight Like Apes, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Setlist: The Script, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Every day has to have a token Irish act on the Main Stage (like the Blizzards at Slane this year), and Friday had a few, The Artane Boys opened, followed by the Coronas, with the Script on much later. (Why weren't you at Fight Like Apes like the rest of the people with taste though?)

I know I'm missing some songs here, so leave a comment if you know what really happened!

Setlist:

Setlist: Snow Patrol, Oxegen, Friday 10 July 2009

Snow Patrol were co-headlining the Main Stage at Oxegen last night, but not really as Blur were the final act and had a much longer show. You could tell Gary Lightbody was annoyed by this and the band did their best to upstage Blur. The fans really got involved in this one, and they may even have outscreamed the Blur fans.

Album News:The Swell Season - Strict Joy

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are back together, creatively at least. That romance was never going to last. Huge age difference and the fact Glen thinks he's God or somesuch. Anyhow, the music is fantastic, so that's all that matters.

Strict Joy will be released on September 25th. No album cover yet, but I'll post it as soon as I get it.

Tracklist:
‘Low Rising’
‘Feeling The Pull’
‘In These Arms’
‘The Rain’
‘Fantasy Man’
‘Paper Cup’
‘High Horses’
‘The Verb’
‘I Have Loved You Wrong’
‘Love That Conquers’
‘Two Tongues’
‘Back Broke’.

Live: Steve Van Zandt at Tower Records

Little Steven's Underground Garage will be coming to town. Stevey will also be performing with the E Street Band when they play with Bruce Springsteen at the RDS at the weekend. Yes, there's something other than Oxegen on. So if you've got tickets for neither Bruce nor Oxegen, then I recommend you head down to Tower Records on Sunday when Steve Van Zandt will pop in for an Underground Garage show.

It's on at 1, and admission is free. Support (which is on after Steven) comes from The Urges and The Len Price 3. It'll be just as good as actually seeing the Boss!

Live: La Roux at the Academy

Freaky looking redhead Elly Jackson, her with the big quiff, who's better known as the vocalist of La Roux will be playing Dublin's Academy on November 12th.

Tickets cost €15 and will go on sale this Friday (as far as I know.)

Download: Elephant Stone - I Am Blind

Indiecater Records have brought us another great release, again at excellent value. This time, it's Rishi Dhir's Elephant Stone. The album is called The Seven Seas and is available for 4 euro!

The album has been nominated for this year's Polaris Prize, and I think it's good enough to win it.

Stream: Son Volt - American Central Dust

American Central Dust is the new album from Jay Farrar's excellent Son Volt. Their last record The Search wasn't quite as good as Okemah and the Melody of Riot, but from listening to the previews of this one, it definitely is a return to form from the former Uncle Tupelo legend.

Live: Groom at Bewley's Cafe Theatre

Excellent local band Groom will be playing Bewley's Cafe Theatre this Thursday, the 9th. Doors are at 8pm and tickets cost €8 on the door. Support comes from Yeh Deadlies, who I'll be interested in seeing. I hear they're pretty decent.

From the press release:

Places are limited to 40

So: if you want, you can just show up and pay at the door. But Bewley's tends to fill up quickly, so we have a 'reserve-a-chair' list. If you think you're going, confirm attendance via the Facebook group or else just you can get in touch with us in whatever way suits you - e-mail, phone, text or pm. We'll stick your name down on a list, which means you're guaranteed a place.

Doors open at 8.30, and Yeh Deadlies are on at 9 sharp (and they're not to be missed, they're great). If you're on the list, and you're not there by 9, your place will go to someone else. Fair?
