Album News: The Streets - Everything Is Borrowed
Yes, Mike Skinner still makes music. While everyone was fawning over Lily Allen (me included), Skinner was on the slippery slope to has-been land. His first two albums, Original Pirate Material and A Grand Don't Come For Free, were excellent takes on urban life in modern Britain. His third, The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living was, well, did anyone actually buy it and listen to it? 'Never Went to Church' was its most succesful single, charting at number 8 in the UK, and 26 in Ireland. The album itself fared much better at 1 and 3 respectively, but sales do not equal greatness, and it was a huge disappointment.
Everything is Borrowed is, essentially, his comeback album. Skinner himself said in a recent blogpost that he hated the last album, and this new one is his "peaceful coming to terms" record. It's expected to be much lighter than Hardest Way, and hopefully we'll be all the better because of it.
His first two records are modern classics, so hopefully he can return to form when Everything is Borrowed is released in August.
