Independence Day weekend is traditionally the day a huge box-office smash is released in the US. It's also the weekend that most people go to the cinema. Last year's film was Transformers, a Michael Bay spectacle which brought many of us back to a lost childhood. It also made the t-shirts cool again.
This year's July 4 film is Will Smith's new vehicle, Hancock, a movie about a waster superhero who comes good, or something like that. I'll probably end up going to see this this weekend, as not one band playing in town takes my fancy. They're probably all resting before the first ever three-day Oxegen festival anyway.
On that note, if you are an act playing some venue and want it to appear in the Gigs section, you can email details to swearimnotpaul@gmail.com and we'll do our best to highlight your gig.
