Yesterday, the final five for the Meteor Music Awards' Most Promising New Artist 2010 were announced. If you followed the voting at all, you would have seen that there were about ten well-known acts and then a bunch of people you've never heard of. Now, don't get me wrong, this wasn't a bad idea, but the fact that it was a public-voting thing meant that whoever could draw in the most votes on facebook or bebo got through. To make it worse, you could vote once a day from your IP address, so you could repeatedly vote for your buddies - no need to register, and at no cost. For the past few weeks, I've been hounded by people sending me links to groups called "Vote for xxx at the Meteors", so I can't wait for it to be over.
But that said, nothing I can do about the voting, so here's your shortlist:

Why bother covering it then? You don't seem to be interested?
Never heard of any of these.
Niall: Saw the news yesterday, but wanted to rant about how it was done in the hope that maybe next year, the voting system would be changed.
If they made you register, and thus could only vote once, it would be much fairer - there would be more chance for it to be based on talent and not popularity.
Ignoring it is the only way to go in my opinion.
Perhaps I should have ignored it, but I wanted to vent about how it was handled.
Also, some of the acts here (namely Soho and Lynch) deserve a little more recognition, so in one way, it's good for them, if nothing else.
