Download: Rachael Yamagata - '2000 Light Years From Home'
Rachael Yamagata's debut album Happenstance was one of my favourite releases of 2005. It was originally released in 2004, but didn't reach our shores til 2005. So now it's been four years since she has released an album. And those of us who loved the debut are asking: "where the hell is the new one? You're not Damien Rice love!"
Sparse details have emerged about her new album (meant to be released months ago, now possibly October. Possibly), which is called A Record in two Parts ... Elephants and Teeth Sinking Into Heart. At this stage, I'd be happy if she just released one part of it.
So since 2004, all we've gotten from Yamagata are a Live EP, a new three song tease for the new record, Loose Ends (costing 3 dollars from her website), and one song for a film that hasn't even been released. Oh and she also wrote a track for Mandy Moore's Wild Hope album, which I'm not ashamed to admit I like. Why? Because Yamagata is so damn brilliant.
Download her track from Robin Danar's ill-fated Altered States:

Rachael, if you're reading, just release some new material already!
