Album News: Made in Iceland 3

Compilation albums are tricky things. Most of the time they're not successful, as one act always shines far above the others. On the flip side, compilation albums are great because you get to hear songs and bands you would have never heard otherwise (unless it's a Now That's What I Call Music record). Made in Iceland 3 features some new(ish) tracks from most of Iceland's best loved musicians. As well as a tune from Sigur Rós's Jonsi ('Boy Lilikoi'), there's excellent songs from Olafur Arnalds and Valgeir Sigurdsson.

Made in Iceland III is out now on Iceland Music Export.

TRACKLISTING:
1. For a Minor Reflection // Dansi Dans
2. Jonsi // Boy Lilikoi
3. Hjaltalin // Suitcase Man

Stream: Jonsi - Go

The full-length solo album from Sigur Rose frontman Jonsi is set for release next week, and now you can stream the entire thing in full on NPR (as well as Jonsi's UK MySpace). It's a fantastic debut, maybe not as good as his main band's output, but it's pretty damn good. 'Boy Lilikoi', 'Kolindur' and 'Go Do' are standouts.

Album News: Jonsi - Go

I already posted a link to 'Boy Lilikoi' from Jonsi's upcoming album Go. If you don't know, Jonsi is the frontman in the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, and this is his first proper solo album. It'll be released on March 22nd, 2010, and Jonsi's manager John Best said this about it:

"Everything about this record has a seat of the pants feel about it, its wildly shifted focus, the way nothing (including the album itself) had a title til about an hour before the news hit the blogs; the fact that as I type I still have no idea what is going to be on the cover; or that, even though Jonsi is currently on a plane to New York to master the record we've no clear idea of what order the songs are going to appear in, or even, in some cases, which versions of songs are going to be used. It's edge of the seat, it's exciting, it's infectious. I think we are beginning to sense that maybe Jonsi has created something super special here. More than that in fact, I think he has created something really special here. I'm not sure I've felt this excited about a project since the time I first heard Agaetis Byrjun, right back in 1999. Holy fuck. Are you ready?."

Download: Jonsi - Boy Lilikoi

Sigur Rós band leader is taking yet more time off from his main band. He released the Riceboy Sleeps with his other half Alex album this year, and is set to release a solo album in Spring 2010. Jónsi is currently working on a new solo album that will feature predominantly acoustic music and string arrangements from classical composer Nico Muhly. The album will be produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Tokyo Police Club). More details when I find out, but as for now, you can download 'Boy Lilikoi' from the album as an mp3 below.
