Download: Mumford & Sons - EP

After seeing Marcus Mumford provide support and an entire one-man backing band for Laura Marling at Whelan's recently, I sought out his band's debut EP. Finding it in the shops was a tricky endeavor, and using the usual tactics of typing in "rapidshare" or ".rar" in Google merited no results (not that I'd approve of that in any way! Buy music, or as Glen Hansard says: Make Art!).

Anyhow, after much searching I found where you could download Mumford & Sons EP, all for the massive price of "free". How is it free? Well you need to register on www.rawrip.com, after which you will be given ten free downloads, four of which can be used to download 'Awake My Soul', 'Liar', 'White Blank Page', and 'Roll Away Your Stone'. Plus, they're giving away 'Banjolin Song' for free anyway. So it'll only cost you four of your ten free downloads.

Free EP? I like it. I might even provide a review of the EP next week. Look out for it.

Album News: Ben Folds - Way to Normal

Ben Folds - Way to Normal album cover art

So, 9 songs from the new Ben Folds album allegedly leaked today, or something. They were taken down real quick, and some are even claiming it to be a fake leak. Ben also played Oxegen this year, and was watched closely by Divine Comedy leader Neil Hannon. His latest solo record Way to Normal is due our September 16th. One track, 'You Don't Know Me' will include a guest appearance from Regina Spektor. Paste Magazine calls it "the funniest album of his career".

Tracks said to appear on the album include:
Free Coffee
Effington
Errant Dog
Hiroshima
Bitch Went Nuts
Kylie From Connecticut
You Don't Know Me

Live: The Swell Season add second Olympia date

After selling out their Olympia date on the 2nd of December, Glen and Marketa (also known as The Swell Season, or him from the Frames and her, Blarney Woolen Mills number 1 customer) have added another show.

MCD claim that it's a "ONCE in a lifetime opportunity", in what is surely the worst pun of the year. Not only is it far from funny (unlike my excellent Blarney Woolen Mills joke!), but it's far from true, as many of you Oxegen revelers packed the Pet Sounds Arena for their set last Sunday.

And then I'm guessing that a lot of you already have tickets for their date on the 2nd of December. The newly announced date is for the 3rd of December, again at the Olympia Theatre, tickets start at €31.60 and are on sale now.

Watch their performance of Academy Award winning tune 'Falling Slowly' at Oxegen here:

Live: Leonard Cohen to play O2 Point Depot

Leonard Cohen O2 Dublin
It'll never be just "The O2" to me. Unless they give me free tickets of course! Plus people are bound to call it "The Point" still. We used to have a shop at home and even though there had been three or four different owners since "Jack", we still always called it "Jack's". Didn't matter that a guy called Paul (not me either) owned it, we all still kept our name - the name we knew.

Anyhow, this December, Leonard Cohen returns to Ireland (his Royal Kilmainham shows went down a treat) to play the Point, sorry the O2. He'll play there December 1st. No details of tickets or prices yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I hear.

Stream: Chris Cornell ft Timbaland - 'Long Gone'

Chris Cornell looking damn sexy
This is not something I ever expected to see, but thanks to Dave from Rawkblog for highlighting this. Dave is usually really good at recommending music (he told me about PAS/CAL, and I haven't looked back since; plus his favourite artist is David Ryan Adams, just like yours truly). Today he pointed out the awfulness of the new Chris Cornell track. Cornell was wonderful before the new millennium, and his Casino Royale soundtrack song 'You Know My Name' was damn good, but he seems to have lost his focus since he left Audioslave. Either way, you can listen for yourself and make up your own mind.

Setlist: The Music, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

I had a request for this set list, so I thought I better do my utmost to find it. I love comments. Give me some! The Music played Pet Sounds on Saturday, and got a great response from the crowd, who were bouncing along to the entire set. Thanks to Bonus on The Music official forum for the setlist:

Bizarre: Parody Album Covers

Led Zeppelin parody
AmiRight lists hundreds (yes, hundreds) of Album Cover Parodies, and is constantly being updated. Although how anyone can parody the Beatles' White Album is beyond me. On second thoughts, you could say half of Weezer's discography is a parody. More a parody of themselves really. have you heard the glorious trainwreck that is 'The Greatest Man That Ever Lived' from their new Red Album? Oh go and listen now, forget 'Pork and Beans', this is where it's at.

As for those actual album cover parodies, check them all out here:

Album News: Parts and Labor - Receivers

Parts and Labor - Receivers

Not only do we get a Dan Friel album this year (the criminally under-the-radar release of Ghost Town), but also in October, Parts and Labor release the follow up to Mapmaker. There is sparse information about the album so far, but Pitchfork do have an exclusive stream of the lead single, 'Nowheres Nigh'.

We do have the damn funky album cover art though.

Stream 'Nowheres Nigh' here:

Watch: The Hold Steady 'Sequestered in Memphis' on Letterman

Craig Finn Celtic Jersey
The Hold Steady are going to be massive. How do I know? Because last night they appeared on America's version Tubridy Tonight, also known as the Late Show with David Letterman. Why isn't The Late Show the US Version of The Late Late Show? Well, have you seen Jay Leno? That man is much more Pat Kenny than David Letterman could ever be!

This is probably their biggest tv appearance to date, and there's bound to be many more. Here's 'Sequestered in Memphis' on Letterman:

Stream: One Day as a Lion - 'Wild International'

One Day as a Lion King
Not content with rocking out at Oxegen on Sunday, Zach de la Rocha is due to release the eponymous EP from his One Day As A Lion sideproject in a week's time. I've previously posted news about the EP and their album here and here.

Finally, you can listen to something from the duo, 'Wild International' has been posted on their myspace. You can't download it, but you can stream it here:

Album Reviews: 16 July 2008

I like talking about music. If you've ever been out with me on a night out, you'll definitely know this. Don't let Graham and me near each other, or we'll just spend the evening talking about music. Thus, I'm adding a new feature to the blog where I sum up the latest releases. Not every album mind, just every one that appears on Metacritic, as well as some other notable Irish and international releases. I'll also be reviewing some non-notable ones too.

Don't expect huge long reviews. Just a few lines. I do have a job I'm meant to be doing! So, without further ado...

New on Metacritic: 14 July 2008

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive
As featured in a recent Upcoming Brilliance, the Hold Steady's fourth album is probably the one that will see them move on to even bigger venues. You may have seen them at the Academy this year, but after Stay Positive, expect them to move up to the Ambassador, but probably not The 02 Point Depot quite yet! The album itself is glorified excellence, and 'Constructive Summer' should be the song of the summer. Highlights include 'Yeah Sapphire', 'Sequestered in Memphis', and the title track 'Stay Positive'.

John Mellencamp - Life, Death, Love and Freedom
John Mellencamp - Life, Death, Love and FreedomGood friend of mine (and maybe perhaps furture blog collaborator) Chris absolutely loves this record. He claims it's the best album Mellencamp has put out since Scarecrow, and although that's not a huge triumph in itself, it is a great addition to his extensive catalogue. The album has a "dark bluesy feel" (Chris's words, not mine), and is a "pleasant surprise".

Nas - Untitled
Nas - UntitledUntitled or Nas or whatever you want to call it is a much better title than the unsettling Nigger that Nas had proposed. Like Mellencamp, this is his best in years, since 2001's Stillmatic. 'Queens Get The Money', 'Make the World Go Round' and 'Fried Chicken' are all standouts. And he even namechecks Barack Obama on 'Black President'. Hell yeah.

Wire - Object 47
Wire - Object 47Another oldschool artist releases a return to glory. Seems to be a trend this week, eh? It's short, punchy, and not really my thing at all. But for fans of the band, it's meant to be a great album (minus the singer, of course), and is sure to please those of you who never left their punk years behind.

Other Releases This Week

The Dutchess & the Duke - She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke
An album that's getting a lot of love at a forum I use (ufck.org if you must know!), this improperly spelled band, with their improperly spelled album are a great new folk-rock act. It's dark, menacing, brooding, and pretty damn good. If it weren't for The Hold Steady, this would definitely be the best album this week. It's like a dirtier Rolling Stones. That can never be a bad thing!

Carla Bruni - Comme Si De Rien N'Etait/As If Anything Happens

The French President's wife might be in Ireland this week as her husband visits to try and convince us to vote again on the Lisbon Treaty - and this time the right way, or something. His new wife, former model Carla Bruni will probbaly not be making a quest appearance at Whelan's at the weekend. This, her third album shows her to be a great performer as well as a great wife! It's an album of baroque pop, that'll probably do well in France and her native Italy, but end up in the bargain bins over here. Here previous record No Promises is still on my iPod, and gets played now and then. Usually when I see her photo in the papers though! Publicity worked for Geri Halliwell, why not her?

Live: Shearwater Whelan's show rescheduled

Shearwater bird, no Rook though
Having previously cancelled their European Tour, American band Shearwater have now announced new dates, inlcuding one in Dublin, one in Galway, and one in Belfast. Shearwater released the oh-so-wonderful Rook recently, and on the back of its success were asked to support Coldplay in the US. Better than Whelan's? I don't think so!

The confirmed Irish dates are:
September 19th - Whelan's, Dublin
September 20th - Speakeasy, Belfast
September 21st - Roisin Dubh, Galway

Tickets go on sale tomorrow and on Friday, and are at a bargain price of €15 for the two southern shows. Don't miss out. They supported Coldplay. COLD-PLAY!!!!

Live: Electric Picnic lineup additions

Grace Jones Electric Picnic, how handsome
Lots of acts were added to Stradbally's very own Electric Picnic 2008 Festival yesterday including the brilliant Laura Marling, whose show I reviewed here:
http://swearimnotpaul.blogspot.com/2008/07/live-review-laura-marling-at-whelans-1.html

Also added is May Day from A View to a Kill, better known as Grace Jones. What a bizarre addition!

Booka Shade

Setlist: Editors, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

Editors started their set great, and proved they were a worthwhile addition to the Main Stage. They also performed new track 'No Sound But The Wind' which was inspired by Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road. The rest of the set was full of their rock anthems, and ended splendidly, as can be seen below.

'Bones'
'The Racing Rats'
'An End Has A Start'
'Escape The Nest'
'All Sparks'
'No Sound But The Wind'
'Bullets'
'Blood'
'You Are Fading'
'Munich'
'The Weight Of The World'
'Fingers In The Factories'

http://swearimnotpaul.blogspot.com/2008/07/setlist-every-oxegen-2008-setlist-so.html

Setlist: The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Although The Brian Jonestown Massacre only had a short time on stage in the Green Room early on Saturday, for many fans, they set the mood for the rest of the day, preparing them for the excellent Ting Tings performance just after. Due to the short time, frontman Anton newcombe said litte, and instead the music was all that mattered.

'Whoever You Are'
'Yeah Yeah'
'Nailing Honey To Bee'
'Who?'
'Nevertheless'
'Hide And Seek'

Setlist: Panic at the Disco, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Like Sugababes, Panic at the Disco aren't what you'd exactly call "a festival band". However, Sarah has informed me that they were "damn good" on Saturday, as they performed high on the bill at the O2 Stage. They ended with 'Nine in the Afternoon' which prompted a huge singalong, which could be clearly heard from the funfair!

'Pas De Cheval'
'But It's Better If You Do'
'Camisado'
'The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage'
'Behind The Sea'
'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off'
'That Green Gentlemen (Things Have Changed)'
'I Write Sins Not Tragedies'
'Northern Downpour'
'Nine In The Afternoon'

Setlist: We Are Scientists, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

We Are Scientists played 'Chick Lit' on the O2 Stage on Sunday, but luckily Amanda Brunker was nowhere to be seen. Have you checked out extracts of her "novel" in the Sunday World? Perhaps the worst piece of filth I've ever seen. She makes Cecelia Ahern look like Jane Austen. The band themselves played a blinder with songs from both their excellent debut With Love and Squalor and their new attention-grabbing Brain Thrust Mastery.

'Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt'
'Chick Lit'
'This Scene Is Dead'
'Inaction'
'Impatient'
'Let's See It'
'Cash Cow'
'After Hours'
'It's A Hit'
'Lethal Enforcer'
'The Great Escape'

Check out closer 'The Great Escape':

Setlist: Jack Penate, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

An act with only one album is always going to have trouble filling a set, luckily Jack Penate's alloted stage time was enough that he only had time for the better tunes. He also tagged on two new tracks, 'Tonight's The Day' and 'Give Yourself Away' which are likely to feature on his second record.

‘Have I Been A Fool’
‘Got My Favourite’
'Give Yourself Away'
‘Spit At Stars’
‘Learning Lines’
'Down Below'
‘Torn On The Platform’
'Tonight's The Day'
‘Second, Minute Or Hour’
'When We Die'

Here's Jack talking to 2FM at Oxegen:

Setlist: Ian Brown, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown headlined the Green Room on Sunday, and was the last act to play the tent until next year's festival (yes, there's talk of Oxegen 2009 already!). The standout was his closer 'F.E.A.R.', a fan favourite for many years now. There was no backwards bicycling on show, but everything has was fantastic. Brown even teased the crowd with a little piece of Rihanna's 'Umbrella'!

'Goodbye To The Broken'
'Street Children (Pity The Child)'
'On Track'
'Time Is My Everything'
'Lovebug'
'Sweet Fantastic'
'Destiny Or Circumstance'
'All Ablaze'
'Keep What Ya Got'
'Dolphins Were Monkeys'
'Golden Gaze'
'Longsight M13'
'Sister Rose'
'Waterfall'
'F.E.A.R.'

Oxegen setlist index:
http://swearimnotpaul.blogspot.com/2008/07/setlist-every-oxegen-2008-setlist-so.html

Setlist: Roisin Murphy, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Former Moloko frontwoman Roisin Murphy returned home to put on a really decent performance in the Pet Sounds Arena. I mena why do people even go outside the tents? Main Stage, meh. I was never a huge fan of Moloko, but her take on her former band's track 'Forever More' was excellent, as was her solo material (no surprise there!)

'Cry Baby'
'Forever More'
'Let Me Know'
'You Know Me Better'
'Primitive'
'Ruby Blue'
'Movie Star'
'Overpowered'
'Ramalama (Bang Bang)'

Setlist: Band of Horses, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

After the Madness that was MGMT in the Pet Sounds Arena, Band of Horses calmed things down with a sweet set, featuring songs from their latest album as well as the instant classic Cease to Begin.

Thanks to Sarah Anne Marie Lane for pointing me in the direction of some setlists. She has quite a long name. I'm guessing that's all her names including her middle and Confirmation name, she'd hardly go around saying "Hi, I'm Sarah Anne Marie, what's your name?" and I'd be like "Well, it's not Paul anyway". God I'm weird sometimes. Sorry if I weirded you out there Sarah!

'Is There A Ghost?'
'The Great Salt Lake'
'Islands On The Coast'
'Weed Party'
'Trudy'
'The First Song'
'Older'
'Ode To LRC'
'Wicked Gill'
'The Funeral'
'No One’s Gonna Love You'
'Detlef Schrempf'
'The General Specific'
'Goodman'

New Irish Music: Star Little Thing and Saving J

Neil from Thundercrack Playlist has drawn my attention to Dublin band Star Little Thing, and their excellent new single 'Fishface'. Watch the video here:

See his preview here:
http://thundercrackplaylist.blogspot.com/2008/07/star-little-thing-fishface.html

Another great new video comes from Kilkenny band Saving J, for their new single 'Kick Off'. I actually prefer the B-Side to the single, called 'Friend or Foe', so in order to get that, you'll have to go and buy the single. Tower Records have it in stock, as the band played the single launch party there a few weeks back.

Check out their Monkees-like single here. And a good job by the bass player giving himself the thumbs up!

News: John Mayer "Arrested"

From his official blog:
http://www.johnmayer.com/Blog

I want all my fans to know that it is with great humility and embarrassment that I have to inform you that I was arrested tonight.
I hope that my forthrightness and honesty will help to ease some of your hurt. Here are the facts.

After my show in Mansfield, MA, I decided to try my hand at mixing the perfect watermelon margarita. Having served more than two dozen, and sipping from each drink as it was delivered, I became very inebriated. The rest makes me sick to my stomach, but here goes:

I thought in my impaired state that it would be a good idea to play Grand Theft Auto 4: Liberty City. It was not. As I left my cousin Roman's apartment with the afternoon to spare, the alcohol (and the loneliness) got to me. The combination of Patron, Triple Sec, Watermelon Pucker and my cousin Roman's misleading promise of the American Dream brought out the darkest side of me.

I decided to walk into traffic and stop a cab. When the driver came to a halt, I opened his door and ripped him from his seat. This is when I began to pummel him without mercy. When he fell to the ground covered in his own bright red blood, I slid into the driver's seat and drove through a busy park with reckless abandon.

I won't lie to you. I hit many, many people. While I can't say how many it was exactly, I garnered 4 white stars and a large police search canvas area. I know I should have surrendered, but I just don't know what got into me. While listening to my favorite hip-hop station, I led police on a three-mile chase through areas dense with innocent people. I was eventually shot, leading my vision to become monochromatic.

I want all my fans to know that I will do my best to redeem myself in your eyes. Though I came-to outside of the Liberty City Police Station two hours later after my arrest, I know that the damage has been done. I have decided from this point on to obey the plot's directive; to figure out just what the hell I'm supposed to do in this game while hitting fewer people and lampposts.

I hope those who hold tickets for the upcoming dates on my tour will still come to enjoy the shows to come.

Regretfully,

John,
proprietor,
Niko Bellic

Stream: Listen to Hold Steady Stay Positive song intros

So, fresh from playing Oxegen, the Hold Steady took time out to record some neat little spoken word intros to the songs on their oh-so-good Stay Positive album. Didn't I tell you it was going to be brilliant?

Setlist: The Pogues, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Shane McGowan and Co. were on form at Oxegen, putting in a splendid performance of which 'Dirty Old Town' was definitely a sing-along highlight! Another NME setlist wrong on their website, do those lads use their ears at concerts? This is the correct one:

'Repeal of the Licensing Laws'
'Streams Of Whiskey'
'If I Should Fall From Grace With God'
'The Broad Majestic Shannon'
'A Pair Of Brown Eyes'
'Tuesday Morning'
'A Rainy Night In Soho'

Download: Coldplay 'Death Will Never Conquer'

You can download a B-Side from Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends from Coldplay.com for free. It was produced by the legendary Brian Eno (just like the album), so it's bound to be good. Bear in mind it's only a 128kbps mp3, but when it's free, why complain?

Album News: Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue

Jenny Lewis Acid Tongue
Yessss!!! Finally, another Jenny Lewis record. After going back to her Rilo Kiley roots with the PerezHilton-acclaimed (not critically acclaimed though, except by Q Magazine) Under the Blacklight, Jenny Lewis is set to release her second solo album in September.

The follow-up to Rabbit Fur Coat is titled Acid Tongue and features over a dozen guests. Confirmed guests include (in alphabetical order): Elvis Costello, Zooey Deschanel (of She & Him fame), Davey Faragher (The Impostors), Jason Lader, Ana and Paz Lenchantin (Paz from A Perfect Circle), Jonathan Rice, Chris Robinson (Black Keys), Dave Scher ("Farmer Dave" from Beachwood Sparks) and M. Ward. Also appearing are Lewis's sister, Leslie, and her dad Eddie Gordon.

It'll be interesting to see two actresses on the one album. Deschanel has played the kooky supporting actress for years, and Lewis herself is a former child star. I actually watched The Wizard for the first time ever on TV3 about a month ago!

A tracklist for the album has also been confirmed:
01 Black Sand
02 Pretty Bird
03 The Next Messiah
04 Bad Man's World
05 Acid Tongue
06 See Fernando
07 Godspeed
08 Carpetbaggers
09 Trying My Best to Love You
10 Jack Killed Mom
11 Sing a Song for Them

Album News: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul album cover

Oasis Dig Out Your Soul album cover

Oasis have released some quite strange album art for the cover of their upcoming album Dig Out Your Soul, due out in early October.

I'm not quite sure if I actually like it or not. It might grow on me!

With Pull the Pin well promoted, Stereophonics arrived at Naas to play what was essentially a Greatest Hits package, must to the pleasure of the casual fan.

The Bartender & The Thief
A Thousand Trees

Setlist: Feeder, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Oxegen mainstays Feeder returned to the O2 Stage for 2008. They play here every year, and put on another exciting performance. This time around they treated their long-term fans (and some new ones) to a cover of Pixies classic 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' before belting out a flawless 'Buck Rogers'.

'Come Back Around'
'Insomnia'
'Miss You'
'Feeling The Moment'
'Pushing The Senses'
'Just The Way I'm Feeling'
'Monkey Gone to Heaven' >
'Buck Rogers'
'High'
'Lost And Found' >
'All My Life'
'Just A Day'

Download: Sigur Ros -Heima (Studio version from Med Sud)

You can download the studio version of Sigur Ros's track 'Heima' (not the DVD itself), taken from the Japenese release of Med Sud i Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust here:

Enjoy. (See I do post stuff other than Oxegen setlists!)

Setlist: Rage Against The Machine, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Zach De la Rocha, Tom Morello and co. brought the 2008 Oxegen Festival to a close with fan favourite 'Killing in the Name Of'. The rest of the set was damn good too, and many eardrums were probably burst with the shear power on display from the band who reformed just this year. Zach talked little (he's noted for being a bit of an oddball), but with music this tenacious, who needs talking?

'Testify'
'Bulls On Parade'
'People Of The Sun'
'Bombtrack'
'Know Your Enemy'
'Bullet In The Head'
'Guerrilla Radio'
'Calm Like A Bomb'
'Sleep Now In the Fire'
'War Within A Breath'
'Killing In The Name'

Also played 'Ashes in the Fall', 'Freedom' and 'Born of a Broken Man'. I didn't see RATM, so I got the setlist from NME. Sorry guys.

Here's a tiny clip from Niamh on Youtube:

Some dude says in the comments that he cried afterwards. My Lord.

Setlist: MGMT, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Oxegen organisers MCD often do ridiculous things, like banning newspapers and forums from talking about their events in a negative light. But the most ridiculous thing they did this weekend was to put MGMT in the small Pet Sounds Arena. It was jam packed, and in order to get a better view of the band, some drunken revellers climbed up the pillars holding up the tent. Funny stuff, that happens every year, but it sadly caused a ten minute delay to MGMT's otherwise excellent set.

'Of Moons, Birds and Monsters'
'Weekend Wars'
'The Handshake'
'4th Dimensional Transition'
'Pieces Of What' (cut short due to those climbers)
'Electric Feel'
'Time To Pretend'
'Kids'

Setlist: Lightspeed Champion, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Lightspeed Champion is a better musician than me. We can both write about music, but he can play better than most people. And Sunday church goers to the Pet Sounds Temple, sorry I mean Arena, worshipped every single word.

'Dry Lips'
'Galaxy Of The Lost'
'No Surprise'
'Marlene'
'Tell Me What It's Worth'
'Star Wars Medley'/'Midnight Surprise'

Setlist: The Subways, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

The Subways opened the O2 Stage on Oxegen's final day with their Irish debut, playing a mix of songs from their two albums.

'Kalifornia'
'Oh Yeah'
'Alright'
'Mary'
'I Won't Let You Down'
'I Wanna Hear What You've Got To Say'
'Turnaround'
'With You'
'Girls And Boys'
'Rock N Roll Queen'

Setlist: Cajun Dance Party, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Cajun Dance Party made their Irish debut, high on the bill on the 2FM New Bands Stage, and thanked the crowd for their warm welcome. Word on the street was that they put on an excellent performance, far better than some of the bigger acts on at the same time.

'Colourful Life'
'Time Falls'
'Five Days'
'Amylase'
'The Firework'
'The Race'
'Buttercups'
'The Hill, The View And The Lights'
'The Next Untouchable'

Setlist: The Zutons, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

No sign of an encore performance of 'Valerie' from Amy Winehouse when the Zutons took to the O2 Stage. And having heard Winehouse's horrendous performance, it must be said the original was far better on Saturday.

'Zuton Fever'
'Don't Ever Think So Much'
'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love'
'What's Your Problem?'
'Bumbag'
'It's The Little Things We Do'
'Confusion'
'Remember Me'
'Harder And Harder'
'Give Me A Reason'
'Pressure Point'
'Valerie'
'Always Right Behind You'
'You Will You Won't'

Setlist: The Prodigy, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

The Prodiy smacked everyone's bitch up on the O2 Stage as they brought Saturday night to a close, and left all our ears ringing well into the early hours of Sunday morning.

'Intro'
'Their Law'
'Worlds On Fire'
'Breathe'
'Spitfire'
'Warriors Dance'
'Firestarter'
'Action Radar Link'
'First Warning'
'Mescaline'
'Voodoo People'
'Poison'
'Diesel Power'
'Smack My Bitch Up'
'Out Of Space'

Setlist: Manic Street Preachers, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

The Manics paid tribute to lost musician Richard Edwards, as the band kicked off a greatest hits set, complete with a Rihanna cover and their own take on Nirvana's 'Pennyroyal Tea'. The Richey Edwards tribute was touching and moving, and you know the band really meant it. Aside from the fact they haven't made an excellent album in years, it's still impossible not to like this band.

'Motorcycle Emptiness'
'You Stole The Sun From My Heart'
'The Masses Against The Classes'
'Umbrella'
'Your Love Alone Is Not Enough'
'Ocean Spray'
'You Love Us'
'Kevin Carter'
'Pennyroyal Tea'
'A Design For Life'
'Autumnsong'
'Motown Junk'
'If You Tolerate This, Then Your Children Will Be Next'

Watch 'Your Love Alone', uploaded by Harry:

Setlist: The Verve, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

The Verve returned to Ireland after a long hiatus, with Richard Ashcroft proclaiming: "Ronaldo, you're not a fucking slave, £120,000 a week?" They gave a stellar set, and performed some new tracks from their upcoming album Forth.

'This Is Music'
'Sonnet'
'Space And Time'
'Sit And Wonder'
'History'
'Life's An Ocean'
'Velvet Morning'
'The Rolling People'
'The Drugs Don't Work'
'Lucky Man'
'Bitter Sweet Symphony'
'Love Is Noise'

Here's a video of new tune 'Sit and Wonder' from T in the Park:

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Setlist: Amy Winehouse, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Her last ever Irish performance (according to her dad anyway), as Winehouse is due to play only five more songs after this. The Daily Star Sunday also claimed that she was suffering severe heart-problems during her Oxegen set, but that didn't stop her heart pining for jailed husband Blake.

'Addicted'
'Just Friends'
'Tears Dry On Their Own'
'Cupid'
'Back To Black'
'Wake Up Alone'
'Some Unholy War'
'Love Is A Losing Game'
'Hey Little Rich Girl'
'You're Wondering Now'
'You Know I'm No Good'
'Rehab'
'Me And Mr Jones'
'Valerie'

Setlist: Vampire Weekend, Oxegen Festival, 12 July 2008

Surely one of the highlights of the weekend was seeing Vampire Weekend in the Green Room. The Brooklyn band played a storm, and even played a song about Amy Winehouse's other half (not really, but Blake does have a new face!)

'Mansard Roof'
'Campus'
'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa'
'M79'
'[Untitled New Song]'
'Bryn'
'A-Punk'
'One (Blake's Got A New Face)'
'I Stand Corrected'
'Oxford Comma'
'Walcott'

Setlist: Counting Crows, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Counting Crows made their Oxegen debut on the Main Stage yesterday, and the sun even came out for a while.

Haven't gotten a full setlist yet, if you have one, please email me at swearimnotpaul@gmail.com

Adam finished up by saying: "Thank you so much for all these years. It is such a fucking great place to come. See you at Dublin Point at Christmas."

Thanks to Rich for the partial setlist.

Setlist: Yeasayer, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

The 2FM New Bands Stage saw New York band Yeasayer get a positive response from the crowd, playing a nice tight set.

'Amblin'
'Wait For The Summer'
'Tightrope'
'Final Path'
'2080'
'Sunrise'

Watch '2080, uploaded by IrishMusicCentral:

Setlist: My Morning Jacket, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

It was a case of screw that new album, as Jim James and My Morning Jacket took to the stage in the Pet Sounds Arena. Only two songs from new record Evil Urges made the set list.

'One Big Holiday'
'Off The Record'
'Wordless Chorus'
'Evil Urges'
'Anytime'
'Laylow'
'Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Part 2'

Setlist: Delays, Oxegen, 12 July 2008

Delays frontman Greg Gilbert performed what was probably the most interactive set of the weekend as he got the crowd to sing along, and distributed beach balls to the audience members up front.

'Lost In A Melody'
'Drone'
'Panic Attacks'
'Friends Are False'
'You And Me'
'Long Time Coming'
'Valentine'

Setlist: Bell x1, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

Covers galore as Irish band Bell x1 (Kildare locals in fact) headlined the Green Room on Friday night. Don Henley and The Flaming Lips were reborn during David Geraghty's and Paul Noonan's stellar set.

'Bad Skin Day'
'The Boys Of Summer'
'My First Born For A Song'
'Snakes And Snakes'
'How Your Heart Is Wired'
'Eve, The Apple Of My Eye'
'Trampoline'
'Flame'
'Natalie'
'The Great Defector'
'Tongue'
'White Water Song'
'Rocky Took A Lover'
'Alphabet Soup'
'I'll See Your Heart, And I'll Raise You Mine'
'Do You Realize?'

Setlist: The Rascals, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

No sign of Alex Turner, nor of a Last Shadow Puppets song, but The Rascals gave a great début performance on the 2FM New Bands Stage at Oxegen 2008.

'Does Your Husband Know That You're On The Run'
'Bond Girl'
'Out Of Dreams'
'Fear Invicted Into The Perfect Stranger'
'Freakbeat Phantom'
'Stockings To Suits'
'I'll Give You Sympathy'
'Is It Too Late?'

Setlist: Tricky, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

British hip-hop comeback-king, Tricky played a set heavy on new material at Oxegen 2008. Five of the tracks played were from recent release Knowle West Boy.

'Love Cats'
'Puppy Toy'
'Council Estate'
'Past Mistake'
'Black Steel'
'Veronika'
'Critic'
'Pumpkin'
'Dear God'
'Girls'
'School Gates'
'Joseph'

Setlist: Sugababes, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

At least they turned up this time. 'Don't Let Go' is an En Vogue cover. Nothing else to note.

'Hole In The Head'
'Round Round'
'Freak Like Me'
'Don't Let Go'
'Denial'
'Overload'
'Red Dress'
'My Love Is Pink'
'Push The Button'
'About You Now'

Setlist: Amy MacDonald, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

Amy MacDonald opened the Oxegen 2008 festival in fine form with songs from her debut album This is the Life, as well as a cover of The Killers' 'When You Were Young'. Her own breakthrough single, 'Run', was a definite highlight as she performed on the Main Stage.

'Poison Prince'
'L.A.'
'Mr Rock 'N' Roll'
'Your Time Will Come'
'This Is The Life'
'When You Were Young'
'Barrowland Ballroom'
'Run'
'Let's Start A Band'

Setlist: The Hold Steady, Oxegen, 13 July 2008

Franz Nicolay Hold Steady at Oxegen
Best barroom band in the world? Best green Room band in the world anyway, at Oxegen 2008. No-one can match Craig Finn for flying around like a kid pretending to be an airplane. Nor can anyone match those lyrics (save for Richard Hawley). The tent was packed this afternoon, and rightly so. Didn't I tell you they were brilliant? Finn also noted that the song 'Navy Sheets' is "about how you should always buy white sheets". Listen to the lyrics and you'll know why!

'Constructive Summer'
'Hot Soft Light'
'Chips Ahoy'
'Sequestered in Memphis'
'Navy Sheets'
'Yeah Sapphire'
'Stuck Between Stations'
'Stay Positive'
'Your Little Hoodrat Friend'
'Slapped Actress'

Setlist: Interpol, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

Interpol live at Oxegen 2008
Personally I didn't think that Interpol would draw a big enough crowd to the Main Stage on Friday, but how wrong I was. The fans lapped it up, and Roland was on fire!

'Pioneer To The Falls'
'Slow Hands'

'Obstacle 1'
'Evil'
'Roland'

Setlist: Kings of Leon, Oxegen, 11 July 2008

Kings of Leon, Oxegen 2008
An excellent show from the Kings of Leon on Friday night showing why they were deserving headliners - they were voted the band fans most wanted to see return in 2008 on the official Oxegen website (which no longer has a forum - something to do with my tent going on fire last year I think). 'Pistol on Fire' was a highlight for many fans, as they don't always perform that tune live.

The wondeful picture above is from Sarah Buckley, who has some other pics on her flickr page:

'Pistol Of Fire'
'Spiral Staircase'
'Trani'
'Knocked Up'
'Charmer'
'Slow Night So Long'

Setlist: REM, Oxegen Festival, 12 July 2008

Not their best set, and plenty of promotion for Accelerate, but old-school fans know what to expect at this stage, on the Main Stage (see what I did there), yesterday. Not one song from Murmurs and Reckoning. It was a year to the day since the last performed in Ireland, where they rehearsed their new songs. Amazingly, they weren't headliners. That was left to The Verve.

'Living Well Is The Best Revenge'
'These Days'
'What's The Frequency Kenneth'
'Begin The Begin'
'Man Size Wreath'
'Drive'
'Ignoredland'
'Hollow Man'
'Imitation Of Life'
'Electrolite'
'The One I Love'
'Loosing My Religion'
'Fall On Me'
'Let Me In'
'Bad Day'
'Horse To Water'

'I'm Gonna DJ'
'Supernatural Superserious'
'It's The End Of The World As We Know it'
'Man On The Moon'
